Racquet Facilities

An organized racquet committee and pro staff keep this facility active year-round for both recreational and competitive players. Our players are active in the greater Charlotte Queen City and USTA Leagues. There are tournaments, interclub competitions, tennis mixers, and year-round clinics for men, women, and juniors.

    Meet the Pros


    Patrick Cunningham, Director of Racquets

    Patrick is from Winston-Salem, NC, and has been teaching tennis for 15 years. He played competitively throughout juniors and into college. He played Division II tennis at Lees McRae College, which was ranked inside the top 20. He also held a top 20 ranking in the NC Men’s Open division. Patrick is USPTA certified and is going into his eighth year at River Hills, now as Director of Racquets. Before coming to River Hills, Patrick was the Director of Tennis at Oakton Swim and Racquet Club in Farifax, VA. Patrick has two cats, Red and Halle, who enjoy keeping him awake at night.

    Ira Vardanian, Assistant Racquet Professional

    Ira is from Kyiv, Ukraine, where she started playing at the age of eight. She has had experience competing professionally, as well as on the collegiate level. She has acquired her highest world junior ranking of #577 in 2014. She played for Coastal Carolina University, mainly on the #1 spot in singles. Ira is USPTA tennis, pickleball and TPT certified and is going into her third year at River Hills. She previously taught tennis at DeBordieu Country Club in Georgetown, SC, and TC Antey in Kyiv, Ukraine. Ira is an enthusiastic and motivated coach and is dedicated to the sport and her students’ success.
