About the Course
River Hills Country Club is known for its natural beauty, casual elegance, pristine facilities, community spirit, and consistently excellent service to its members and guests. Friendly people of diverse interests and experiences have come to our club to enjoy an exceptional quality of life and leisure for over 50 years.
The course was originally designed by Willard Byrd and developed by Sea Pines Development Company. In 2012, RHCC undertook the largest course renovation in its history and converted the greens from bentgrass to champions ultradwarf Bermudagrass. Additionally, the square footage of each green was increased by 20% and all were recontoured. The result is a smooth "true" putting surface, rivaled by few other courses in the Charlotte area.
In 2022, we re-sprigged the greens, and added new contours to the putting surfaces. The RHCC agronomy team rebuilt the bunker complexes with enhanced drainage, increased sand, and completed an Australian roll finish. Bunker renovation was completed in March of 2022. Finally, the course has undergone another major improvement: replacement of the irrigation system. A dual line system was installed to increase the water distribution to cover the fairways and the rough, enhancing the playability of the entire course throughout the full golf season. This project was completed in May of 2023.
Our course and club have seen many improvements throughout the years. Presently, the fairways and rough are 419 Bermudagrass. Members have access to a short game practice area, the driving range, and the Golf Academy.
Operation 36
Operation 36 is a world class, player development program that provides a clear roadmap to long-term success and enjoyment in golf. The 9 hole event is one of the cores of the Operation 36 development model and coaching platform. All golfers begin in Division 1 and play 9 holes starting 25 yards from each green. If they shoot 36 or better, the golfer progresses to Division 2, where they start 50 yards from each green. This challenge continues until the golfer can shoot par (36) from their desired tee box. The second core of Op36 is the educational component. All clinics and instructional opportunities will use the Op36 curriculum. Finally, the third core is progress tracking. Through the use of the Op36 mobile app, coaches and parents can monitor the golfers development and offer guidance in a motivating and encouraging way.
